Vlogging – The Watermelon Pig!
The gauntlet was thrown down on Friday afternoon at the Save the Children/Annabel Karmel Twitter Party. Foolishly I picked it up and threw it back at Sian To with a flourish. Yes, I would rise to the challenge and vlog my family and me constructing Annabel’s magnificent watermelon pig! No Problemo, easy peasy watermelon squeezy.
Foolish woman…I hadn’t factored in the teenage mood swings of modern technology which can create tensions only matched in a marriage by long car journeys and map reading!
Anyway to cut a long story mercifully short, the first half of our ‘How to cook like Annabel Karmel’ refuses to leave the camcorder and all we can offer you is ‘Pig Part 2′ recorded on Mr Thinly Spread’s iPhone…bring on the iPhone love! In the first half I was all Blue Petery, offering clear instructions, in the second half, not so much! You’ll have to look at Annabel’s instructions – I’m not doing it all again!
As you can see, we spent seconds in wardrobe and make up! The music you can hear playing in the background is Herbie Hancock’s Watermelon Man, fitting don’t you think?
If you look at Annabel’s recipe you will note she doesn’t include either strawberries or blueberries and that her pig’s ears are perky whereas ours are droopy. Half the family are melon haters so I adapted the recipe to suit, as I always do – as for the ears…droopy adds character!

What a good-looking family!
Wahay, check you out; you’ve got a voice and everything!
Your children are gorgeous, they are both so confident and funny, and BB clearly adores his mummy. Very impressed to see them cutting with proper knives (more accidents happen with blunt ones than sharp ones) and I did wonder if you were ever going to have enough fruit to fill Wonky Pig!
I have! They are lovely I have to say! Proper knives are essential for kids cooking, if a bit scary!
I love wonky Pig! My kids enjoyed watching that and JJ tells me he saw Annabel Karmel doing it on Tv and yours is better!

Oh high praise! Please thank him, that has made my day!
Did we indeed get a glimpse of you dear lady?!!? YAY!!!! Love the watermelon pig…. how fun (and ridiculously unnecessary, but this is what fun childhood stuff is all about!)
Maggy
It was SUCH fun! We’ll make one again for a party, kids would love it!
Please thank your gorgeous children for their great demonstration. This looks great for a summer party where there are lots of kids around. Anything which encourages them to eat fruit.
I will, thank you! It would be a great centre piece at a party wouldn’t it?!
I’ve heard your voice. It was worth it just for that. I take it BB was just there for decoration purposes and cocktail drinking.
He was! And pinching everything before it got into the melon…he did slice a lime and make a few melon balls…and a mess!
