Thank you so much to those of you who joined in with Festive Friday when it launched last week, we put a lot of people in the mood! If you have a little something for us this week, the linky is down there at the bottom of this delicious post! Do go and have a look at everyone else’s work!
This week in our small market town Christmas has come creeping. Shop windows are beginning to take on their festive finery, the Christmas lights criss-cross the streets ready for the big turn on at the end of the month (Bonus Boy loved watching the man in the bucket being craned up into the air, his arms draped with spaghetti wires!) and at the weekend the smell of chocolate pervaded the air.
But, let me take you back in time to the arrival 3 weeks ago of our local What’s On magazine. My Darling Girl skipped happily into the kitchen, magazine in one hand and a golden envelope in the other. Distractedly I tore it open and this gleamed up at me!
We had been Willy Wonka-d! We had won the one and only Golden Ticket to Chocolate Sunday! So, last weekend on a grey and miserable afternoon the Thinly Spreads en masse entered a wonderful world of chocolate.
Once we had dealt with the paparazzi (one chap with a camera capturing our 15 minutes of fame for posterity!) we were free to wander. There were chocolate shoes, chocolate cakes and glorious sculptures crafted from the delicious stuff.
(Look again at that photo, it’s made of chocolate!…no not the smiley man, the palette!)
There was a chocolate fountain, there was hot chocolate there was even CHOCOLATE BEER! As I strolled around tasting and testing I was, of course, thinking about you dear reader – and then I happened upon Jake.
Jake is a Raw Chocolatier and there he was MAKING CHOCOLATE! Best of all, he was making it with delicious raw, organic ingredients and he was obviously really enjoying his job! He was lovely to watch!
Jake’s company The Chocolution sells the magnificent Mayan Magic chocolate making kit which is simple enough for small children (with a bit of help with the hot bit) to use but also allows older children and grown ups to experiment with flavours and to discover ‘the infinite levels of refinement for the connoisseur’. I moved, in my mind, beyond Willy Wonka and was Juliette Binoche tempting Johnny Depp with my wares in Lansquenet-sous-Tannes (If you have not seen or read Chocolat, you must).
Jake very kindly handed over a kit for us to review. It is quite simply, brilliant. It is fun, easy, delicious and probably addictive. I have found the answer to the difficult gift question: This is a perfect stocking filler for teenage boys, teenage girls, Dads, Grandads, Grannies, Mums, that friend you have bought candles for once to often and any child big enough to stir a bowl and drop things into it. We have added clementine and cinnamon to one batch and lemon and ginger to another, we have one batch left and are arguing over what flavour should go in; I think we will be buying more!
Are you drooling?
The kits cost £13.99 each with free delivery in the UK and there are discouunts for bulk buying, so if you think this is the answer to your present problem prayers off you pop! BUT, Jake’s generosity knows no bounds and he has offered the prize for this week’s Festive Friday. I have one Mayan Magic Chocolate Making Kit to give away!
