Happy New Year – On Charmouth Beach
New Year’s Day dawned blue and bright here in the West of England and, after weeks of rain, we dragged our children out of bed and into the car to head for the coast.
Lyme Regis is our usual port of call for a quick jaunt, the chippy is reliable and we can sit on the beach chomping before wandering down to the limestone pavement for a bit of fossil hunting. However, the world, his wife and their offspring had the same idea and there was not a parking space to be found in all of Lyme. Mr Thinly Spread managed not to swear as we hunted high and low and I managed not to wet myself worrying whether the clutch on my poor old van would hold up to the steep hills.
We bolted and headed for Charmouth four miles away where we managed to bag the last 5 portions of chips from the battered shack on the beach. Careful not to get too close to the fresh mud falls from the cliff face we headed off to clear the Christmas cobwebs.
She suddenly looked like a girl who is nearly 13 rather than a girl who is only 12
The New Year blazed bright before us
And it looked good!
My heart lifted and I breathed crisp clean air. We came home with pockets full of fossils and heads full of dreams and plans.
Happy New Year to all who spent 2012 with us, we hope you’ll stay with us through 2013!
Happily shared with Country Kids

Beautiful photo’s Chris, what a lovely way to spend New Years Day. xx
Thanks Emma, we usually try to get to the sea on New Year’s Day, it doesn’t always go to plan!
Ooh you, what gorgeous photos. Looks like a beautiful day, makes my heart ache for some time by the sea. Happy New Year to all the TS family – hope 2013 is an absolute joy for you all x
OH and I are slipping gradually down the country towards the coast, we’ll get there eventually! Happy New Year to you and yours, very much looking forward to seeing more of you in 2013

Love Lyme Regis and you can’t beat a bit of fossil hunting can you?! We headed for our usual dog walking beach at Rock then we were met by hoards of people who wouldn’t usually be there, so a full car park
So we headed off instead to Lundy Bay Natural Trust car park and had a slippy walked down to the beach there. Met like you with the sun glistening off the sea and indeed does lift the heart.
Happy 2013 to you and your lovely family x
Sounds very similar to our day! I hope 2013 brings you all your heart desires

Happy New Year Chris. We headed to our local National Trust haunt on New Years day and blew some cobwebs away, it was such a relief after all the rain to get out wasn’t it. Hope 2013 brings joy and happiness to your household.
Thanks Ella! Which NT is nearest to you, perhaps we could meet there for a frolic soon? Hope 2013 is wonderful for you and yours! x
I love the coastline around there, it’s my absolute favourite in the world. My great aunt lived in Bridport until she died in 2009 and I’ve spent many a Summer holiday down there. Beautiful photos and a happy new year.
Thanks lovely! It’s such a gorgeous part of the country, I feel so lucky to be able to get there even if it is a bit of a drive rather than a quick nip. Happy New Year to you and yours, I hope 2013 is a good one! x
What gorgeous pictures and happy new year x
Thanks Susan and to you! What an exciting new year you are going to have! x
