How to Make Chocolate Spoons

You can make these delicious Homemade Hot Chocolate Spoons by pouring your chocolate mixture into a spoon and allowing it to set but I thought they looked much more festive inside little shiny petit fours cases with silver spoons standing proud – such a lovely gift to unwrap on Christmas morning or Valentine’s Day! A cup of hot chocolate just waiting for a stream of steaming milk and then, with hands wrapped around the mug, back to present giving, carol singing and Christmas making!

Ingredients (makes about 12)

100g dark chocolate

40g icing sugar

small spoons (plastic, wood or pretty silver ones like mine – auction houses and charity shops are great for boxes full of old cutlery)

a piping bag

petit fours cases

clear plastic bags, ribbon, labels or any other packaging material which takes your fancy

Method

  • Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. When just melted, remove from the heat and stir in the icing sugar.
  • Spoon the mixture into the piping bag and squeeze it into your cases. Stand a spoon in each case and put into the fridge to set.

  • Present your gift by putting each chocolate, along with spoon, into a clear plastic bag, tie with ribbon and add an instruction label such as ‘Stir into hot milk’ or ‘Drink me’.

  • Or you can pop one inside a little tea cup and give the whole thing as a perfect gift – all your loved one will need is a pan and some milk, what a thoughtful giver you are!

Try this: Add extra flavours to the chocolate to make it more interesting. Try adding a sprinkle of cinnamon or a few drops of orange essence after the icing sugar. I’ve sprinkled these offerings with some edible glitter for a bit more sparkle. You could omit the spoon and just give a jar of hot chocolate swirls instead!
