The last Festive Friday of 2013? How on earth did that sneak up so quickly?  This year, once again, it has been an absolute joy! The ideas linked up are wonderful, the people linking have been lovely and I have thoroughly enjoyed its laid back approach to the season. It’s become an old friend, a crucial part of my build up to the big day, and I thank each and every one of you who has taken part, pinned, shared and chatted about ideas as well as those of you who have had a go at something you found here and fed back to the blogger who created it!

Today I will leave you with a few reminders from Festive Fridays past at Thinly Spread – these are the things I make time for, the things I love. the things which sing Christmas to me.

  • I have been seeing lots of posts about Christmas boxes popping up this year – this is the post I wrote a couple of years ago about our Christmas Eve Snuggle Sack – our very favourite bit of Christmas!
  • Before we get as far as the snuggle sack we bake bread and eat soup. Every Christmas Eve we make bread dough, they pummel it into Father Christmas shapes, into the oven and, Hey Presto, Father Christmas Bread!
  • Ice lanterns. I don’t always manage to get this sorted if I’m totally honest but, when I do, it is SO worth it! They don’t take much making and they look just amazing!

We’ll make fudge and popcorn, and eat mince pies. We’ll dance around the kitchen to cheesy Christmas songs and snuggle under blankets to watch movies with the lights out. We’ll do a drive by to see the crazy lights on other people’s houses. We’ll curl up with books  in front of the fire and we’ll recharge. That’s the secret of Christmas for me, the simple things which don’t cost the earth but build memories and strengthen bonds.

What do you make sure you have time for in the run up to Christmas? What is the one thing you have to do to get you in the mood?

How Does Festive Friday Work?

Festive Friday is an ongoing Linky for all things Christmas and runs through  until Boxing Day. There is no long list of requirements, it would be lovely if you mentioned me in your post and gave me a little link – if you do I’ll give you a kiss under the mistletoe and share a glass of sherry or two, if you don’t I won’t poke you with the holly or snatch back the mince pies! Please link up any lovely Christmas posts, past or present and help me to build a resource for Christmas lovers everywhere!

I am also running a collaborative Festive Friday Pinterest Board and will be pinning all those who join in on a Friday (with a full credit and link of course!). If you would like an invite to join the board and add your own pins just ask!
