Chocolate Cherry Flapjack - more than just flapjack, this is indulgent, grown up flapjack!

Chocolate Cherry Flapjack

A Grown Up flapjack full of cherries and chocolate!

  • 180 g/¾ cup butter/vegan margarine
  • 180 g/¾ cup soft brown sugar
  • 4 tbsps Golden Syrup
  • 375 g/4 cups Porridge Oats
  • 2 handfuls of branflakes
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 75 g/½ cup dried cherries
  • 50 g/? cup dark chocolate at least 70% cocoa
  • 16 fresh cherries
  • You will also need a 23cm (9") x 23 cm (9") baking tin and baking parchment


  1. Preheat your oven to 170C/325F/Gas Mark 3.
  2. Grease and line your baking tin.
  3. Melt the butter, golden syrup and sugar together in a large saucepan.
  4. Mix together the oats, cocoa and bran flakes and add to the pan.
  5. Stir well to combine throughly.
  6. Add the dried cherries and stir again so that they are evenly distributed.
  7. Bake for about 15 - 20 minutes until the flapjack is brown.
  8. Leave to cool in the tin for ten minutes, cut the flapjack into 16 squares and leave to cool completely in the tin.
  9. Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl standing over a pan of hot water.
  10. Drizzle the top of the cooled flapjack with chocolate and leave to set.
  11. Dip the cherries into the remaining chocolate and leave to set on a piece of baking parchment.
  12. Top each flapjack with a chocolate cherry!
