Manuka Honey Glazed Plums with Overnight Oats and Omega Seeds – A Superfood Breakfast to Kick Start your Day!
Breakfast is such a lovely word – breaking the overnight fast as the sun rises and a new day full of promise begins. Yes, it may all go pear-shaped pretty quickly, but that first mouthful of something full of energy and goodness to get me through whatever may lie in wait is one of my favourite moments.
Rowse Honey have launched a collection of fabulous Manuka Honeys and commissioned me to create a superfood breakfast recipe to showcase this fabulous stuff – Manuka Honey Glazed Plums and Overnight Oats with Omega Seeds seemed like a good plan! This recipe really doesn’t take much doing and it will see you through to lunchtime.
Last night I poured a mixture of almond milk, greek yoghurt and a little cinnamon over a cupful of rolled oats and left it in the fridge to do its thing while I slept. This morning the oats had absorbed all the liquid and were creamy and ready for me! I halved some plums, removed the stones and dipped them in a tablespoonful of Rowse Manuka Honey.
I heated up my griddle pan, popped the plums on to sizzle and removed them when they had those lovely lines seared into them.
I spooned half my oats into the bottom of a jar (a bowl will do just as well but I wanted to take a pretty picture for you!), topped them with two of the plums which I chopped into pieces and spooned the remaining oats on top. It was cold and grey in Somerset so I added a generous spoonful of greek yoghurt crowned with the remaining plum halves. All that remained was to sprinkle the whole lot with a handful of omega seeds and a drizzle of Manuka honey.
So, What Makes Rowse Manuka Honey Special?
Manuka Honey has a slightly earthy taste, less sweet than regular honey and it is packed full of immune boosting goodness – is there anything better when you’ve got the sniffles than a spoonful of honey in some hot lemon?!
Only honey farmed in New Zealand from bees feeding on the nectar of the Manuka tree is authentic Manuka Honey. Manuka has been used by the Maori community for centuries and now people around the world prize it for its antibacterial properties and its perceived health benefits. It is believed to have immune boosting properties, as does regular honey, but Manuka has an extra different type of antibacterial action known as Non-Peroxide Activity (NPA) which gives it an extra boost. This antibacterial action is dictated by an active component called methylglyoxal (MGO) which is less affected by heat, light, acidity and moisture making its anti bacterial properties more robust.
Genuine Manuka Honey is priced according to its NPA rating – the higher the rate, the higher the cost – however, not all honeys are equal. Far more Manuka honey is being sold than is being produced and the Rowse Campaign for Real Manuka is calling for improved guidelines regarding testing and labelling to ensure that consumers are getting what they are paying for, with a minimum NPA rating of 5+ to be considered real Manuka Honey.
To ensure all Rowse Manuka Honey is 100% authentic, it is tested twice; once at source in New Zealand and again when it arrives in the UK to ensure that the NPA level stated on the label is exactly what the customer gets when they open the jar.
But, best of all – it tastes good! Here’s the full recipe for my Manuka Honey Glazed Plums with Overnight Oats and Omega Seeds, enjoy!

Oh wow Chris my mouth is watering looking at this gorgeous breakfast dish, plums and overnight oats sound lush and I really need to try this idea as it’s another thing I’ve never made! I had my Manuka honey on toast this morning as was in a rush:-)
Honey on toast is VERY hard to beat!
I always wondered what overnight oats were – and now I know. You’ve also opened a whole new world for me as I never considered the possibility of eating cold oats before. I love porridge but never have enough time for it in the mornings. This sort of dish I could take to work with me and eat later. Thank you for changing my life. π
Oh this made me grin, thank you! π
Mmmm these look good! I just hovered over some plums at the fruit shop and plumped for golden pears instead (the golden got me!). I love overnight oats and the smugness when the next morning breakfast is ready!
Current favorite at the moment is baked oats, which seasonally this week have pumpkin in π
Oh my! That sounds gorgeous! I’ll have to give it a go, love pumpkin and it must go very well indeed with oats!
Oooh this sounds absolutely divine. Tasty and nourishing π
Absolutely!
Oh this looks so delicious! Love roasted/grilled plums. I really need to try this recipe π
Yay! Do let me know how you get on if you do!
This looks good enough for dessert! So gorgeous.
It does make a lovely dessert actually. Or lunch. Or anytime you’re a bit peckish!
Oh those griddled plums look absolutely delicious, what a fabulous way to start the day! Love the sound of the manuka honey, must look out for that. Yum!
They are so pretty it seems a shame to eat them really – I managed though! π
Reading this on my commute having skipped breakfast and boy are you making me hungry! Will have to give this a go tomorrow!
You could take it with you on your commute!
Oh boy, this looks like my perfect breakfast!

Hoorah! Thanks Janie!
Phwoarrrr – how good does this look? I love overnight oats (with plant yog and maple syrup, of course!) but only usually add sultanas and almonds… plums however – now you’re talking!
Manuka honey takes me straight back to NZ with the scent of manuka everywhere. What a very lovely breakfast. It’s porridge for me at this time of year, but overnight oats will be having their time at my breakfast table when the weather gets warmer π
