Apple and Hazelnut Pizza with Cinnamon

Apple Pizza

A simple recipe for delicious sweet pizzas topped with fresh apples, raisins, toasted hazelnuts and cinnamon.

For the Pizza Dough

  • 125 g plain flour (all purpose flour)
  • 125 g strong white bread flour
  • 1 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp easy bake yeast
  • 1/2 tbsp olive oil

For the Pizza Topping

  • 3 red skinned apples
  • 100 g hazelnuts
  • 50 g sultanas
  • 2 tbsp apple juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon


To Make the Pizza Dough

  • Put the flours, salt and yeast into a large bowl, mix well to combine.
  • Add oil and 160ml (2/3 cup) warm water and mix together until you get a rough dough. Turn out and knead on a lightly floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic (you can do this in a mixer with a dough hook if you prefer).
  • Lightly grease a large bowl and add your dough, turning it so it has a light coating of oil all over. Cover with a tea towel and leave in a warm place until doubled in size. This takes about an hour but will depend on temperature in your kitchen. 
  • When it has doubled in size, knock it back with your fingers (punch it lightly until it collapses), divide into two pieces and roll out into two large pizza circles. 

To Make the Pizza Topping

  • While the pizza dough is rising toast the hazelnuts lightly in a large dry frying pan over a gentle heat until slightly browner and smelling toasty. Leave to cool and chop into chunky pieces.
  • Slice the apples thinly, avoiding the core, and toss in the apple juice and cinnamon.

Assemble the Pizza

  • Preheat the oven to 220C/425F
  • Place your pizza bases onto pizza trays, stretch to fill the trays.
  • Arrange your soaked apple slices on top, sprinkle with toasted hazelnuts and the sultanas. Sprinkle with a little more cinnamon to taste.
  • Cook in the preheated oven for 10 - 15 minutes until browned and aromatic.
