Soft Brown Sugar
Butter at room temperature
Egg at room temperature
Bicarbonate of Soda
Plain Chocolate Chips
A Cocktail Stick
To make the spiders not to go in the cookies!
Preheat your oven to 190°C/375°F/Gas Mark 5
Lightly grease two baking sheets
Cream together the butter and sugars using a free standing mixer with the paddle attachment (or by hand with a wooden spoountil light and fluffy
Add the beaten egg and mix thoroughly
Add the flour and the bicarbonate of soda and thoroughly combine
Add most of the chocolate chips, keeping a few back to make the 'spiders'. Mix in well.
Spoon dessert spoonfuls of the mixture onto your trays leaving gaps between each heap, the cookies will spread
Top each cookie with three or four of the reserved chocolate chips
Bake for 10 -12 mins until golden
Use your cocktail stick to drag legs out of the chocolate chips while they are still melty, four on each side!
Leave to cool a bit on a wire rack
These biscuits store well in an airtight container for two or three days and make a lovely addition to school lunch boxes as Halloween approaches!
Serve with optional spider for extra scare power!
