I’m a big fan of Dorset Cereals muesli and granola mixes so I jumped at the chance to develop a summer breakfast bowl using their Bircher Muesli – it’s perfect for a summer breakfast!
We are about to set sail for a couple of weeks and breakfast on board is one of the most important things I have to consider. When we are up before the seagulls to catch the morning tide it has to be simple to prepare, filling and delicious. Mr TS doesn’t hang about when he’s ready to cast us off so I can’t start cooking in case I’m needed on deck but, if it’s rough out there, it might be hours before we eat more than a ginger biscuit or a slice of bread! We need something which will keep us going and give us enough energy to winch and haul our way across the waves. Cool, creamy Dorset Cereals Bircher Muesli is ready when we are and we can customise it to suit each of our tastes – perfect!
Dorset Cereals have two varieties of Bircher Muesli Mix to choose from; a fruity blend of Raspberry and Blackcurrant and warm and delicious Almonds and Honey. I could use either as the base for my recipe but I chose Almonds and Honey this time! The beauty of Bircher Muesli is that you can make it up the night before and then just stir it together and add your toppings in the morning. I mixed fresh apple juice into the Bircher base, dolloped some organic blackcurrant yoghurt on top and went to bed. Then, this morning I wandered around the garden in my nightie picking redcurrants, cherries, raspberries and blue borage flowers to pop on top – simple!
- 50g Dorset Cereal’s Bircher Muesli (I used Almonds and Honey but this is just as good with Raspberries and Blackcurrant)
- 70 ml fresh, organic apple juice
- 50g organic British Blackcurrant yoghurt (I used Yeo Valley’s)
- A few cherries, raspberries and redcurrants
- Blue Borage flowers
- Stir the apple juice into the muesli, spoon the yoghurt on top
- Leave overnight in the fridge (or for 30 minutes if you’re in a hurry/forgot to do it last night!)
- In the morning stir the yoghurt into the Bircher Muesli
- Top with fresh fruits and edible flowers
What I really like about Dorset Cereals Bircher Muesli is that there are endless possibilities to combine flavours and textures to suit each family member. How about switching the apple juice for pineapple juice and adding a spoonful of coconut yoghurt then topping it with sliced bananas and cinnamon? – or pouring on chocolate milk and adding raspberry yoghurt? You could get rid of the summer fruits and add a handful of nuts and seeds instead if you were that way inclined!
I can make up a big batch which we can grab as we need it – on a long sail, that’s a godsend! While it is perfect for warm summer mornings, it’s pretty good in the evening when we finally reach safe harbour too!
What would your twist on Dorset Cereals Bircher Muesli be?
Dorset Cereals are fun to follow on Facebook and Twitter and I love their Instagram feed – it often features images of the coastline we sail along! Do give their Bircher Muesli a try and let me know how you give it your personal twist!
Disclosure: This is a collaborative post. I was asked to develop a recipe using Dorset Cereals Bircher Muesli which wasn’t difficult as I eat their Simply Nutty Muesli every day!
